• KMDA plans to raze bldg on EM Bypass, shift stalls

  • Kolkata: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) is working on modalities to demolish a building on EM Bypass and temporarily rehabilitate nine stalls to a nearby night shelter to facilitate widening of a culvert at Chingrighata that will ease traffic congestion.

    The building where the stalls are currently located need to be demolished to widen the culvert. KMDA officials said another 10 m can be added to the road width that will increase the number of lanes at the busy intersection.

    KMDA is also working on widening a stretch of the Bypass by constructing a 45-m-long bridge over the intercepting canal near Arsalan restaurant. The work is expected to be completed soon.

    Two abandoned culverts, one near Uttarpanchannagram crossing and another near SRFTI crossing, are being converted into pedestrian subways. A foot overbridge has been set up at Ghoshpara crossing near Patuli, and another FOB is being planned at Patuli crossing.
