  • 123 Kolkata: A youth, Abinash Bauri (22), who worked for a Chandni Chowk trader, Kushal Chhabra, was found murdered in the latter's fourth-floor flat near Bhawani Cinema in Tollygunge on Saturday. This was the third murder reported in the city within a week, following the deaths in Vidyasagar Colony in Baghajatin and Beleghata.

Bauri was apparently Chhabra's man Friday, who cooked for him, looked after his home and even took care of his accounts. He was employed two years ago, police said.

Chhabra, along with Bauri, was reportedly supposed to leave for Asanasol in the evening. Chhabra called Bauri from his wallpaper shop on Lenin Sarani, planning to ask him to cook some food. But as Bauri's calls went unanswered, Chhabra asked an acquaintance to check the flat. The person reportedly found the door locked. "On Chhabra's request, the building caretaker, with a few others, broke down the door to find Bauri lying dead on the bed, with a stab injury from his shoulder," said Namita Mondal, a domestic help in the building.

"The injuries seem to be homicidal in nature, spread over neck, upper shoulder and face," said joint CP (crime & traffic) Rupesh Kumar.

Police said the absence of signs of forced entry indicated that the assailant was known to Bauri. Cops have summoned six people for questioning. Police said the murder weapon was yet to be found.
