123 Kolkata: A man in his early 40s was allegedly stabbed by an auto driver after he protested against the latter's reckless driving along BT Road at Titagarh on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred when the auto driver, driving rashly, hit the man, leading to an altercation. The accused driver was arrested.
According to local sources, the incident took place around 1 pm on Sunday while the victim, Dipen Mondal, a resident of Titagarh's Viveknagar, was returning home after taking his son from a private coaching class.
On hearing the commotion, the locals rushed to the spot and took the blood-soaked Mondal to Khardaha Balaram State General Hospital, where Mondal received at least five stitches on his head.
After being discharged from hospital, Mondal went to Khardah police station and lodged an FIR against the accused auto driver. Following his written complaint, the auto driver was arrested along with his vehicle.
"Prima facie, it appears that both the man and the auto driver attacked each other during a heated altercation, following which Mondal sustained serious injuries on his head. We have launched an investigation into the incident," a senior police officer of the Barrackpore Commissionerate said.
After coming out of the police station,Mondal said, "I was returning home with my son from tuition. A new bumper has been installed near Titagarh's Tata Gate, so all vehicles slow down there. The auto, instead of slowing down, hit me and stopped near the bumper. When I protested he got angry and started shouting. As the argument escalated, he took out a weapon from under his seat and attacked me from behind on my head."
