Howrah: The Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC) has received a significant boost in its waste management capabilities with the State Urban Development Authority (SUDA) providing 20 new six-wheeled dumpers to address the city's garbage crisis.
Civic body chairman Sujay Chakraborty said that approximately 1,200 tonne of waste, which had accumulated during the recent landfill crisis, has been successfully transported to Dhapa.
"We expect to clear all remaining waste, both old and new, by Monday morning," Chakraborty stated.
A specialized agency has been roped in to conduct bio-mining operations at the Belgachhia landfill round-the-clock to level two massive waste mountains. Currently, a fleet of 70 large dumpers is operational in Howrah, managing both daily waste and backlog.
