Kolkata: A 59-year-old cyclist lost his life on the Central Garden Reach Road after coming under the wheels of a truck. The incident was reported around 7 pm on Sunday.
The victim, Jugal Shaw, a resident of Kholisahi in rural Hooghly, died at the spot even before he could be taken to SSKM Hospital.
"The CCTV footage shows the cyclist, Shaw, pushing his cycle along the road and coming near the CGR Road-Coal Berth Road crossing. The truck is seen crossing the cyclist at a safe distance. It was not speeding. Suddenly, Shaw tried to board the moving cycle in order to cross the crossing quickly as the signal was green. In his hurry, the cycle became unstable and swerved right. Shaw was thrown forward and came under the tyres of the rear portion of the truck and was completely crushed," said an investigating officer.
