  • A 22-YEAR-OLD man was found dead in an apartment on Deshpran Sasmal Road area in Kolkata’s Charu Market on Saturday, police said. Police identified the deceased as Abinash Bauri from Barakar, Asansol, adding that it is likely that he was murdered.

Bauri was employed as a domestic help and driver by Kushal Chabra, who owns a wallpaper shop on Lenin Sarani, police said.

Local police were informed around 6:30 pm on Saturday. A police team reached the spot and found the body inside the flat. According to police sources, initial observations indicated “signs of foul play”.

“There seem to be homicidal injuries on the neck and face and the body was found lying in a pool of blood,” said a police officer. The subsequent post-mortem examination conducted by authorities at the Charu Market police station revealed the extent of the violence. The findings confirmed multiple stab wounds, police said.

The examination also provided an estimated timeline of the death. “Death was due to the effects of injuries ante-mortem and homicidal in nature,” the official said, adding, “The youth died around 18-25 hours before post-mortem examination and 1 to 1.5 hours after last meal.”

Initial investigations have revealed that Bauri resided in the rented flat on Deshpran Sasmal Road.

Authorities are currently awaiting further details from the autopsy report to ascertain the precise cause of death and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, said an officer.
