Kolkata: A woman para-teacher at a higher secondary school in Kestopur has lodged a complaint of workplace harassment, ill-treatment and mental torture against the teacher-in-charge.
The complainant , who has been teaching history at the school since 2004, has alleged that she faced serious ‘health consequences' caused by the ‘inappropriate behaviour' of her senior colleague and was even hospitalised for three days. "Whenever I sought assistance or clarification on school duties, he responded with sarcasm and disrespect. Since 2011, I have been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. I underwent a knee replacement surgery in 2023, after which I took unpaid leave. After I returned I was assigned classes for which I had to climb stairs after almost every period. When I had tried to submit my medical prescriptions, the TIC refused to acknowledge them and dismissed my concerns," the woman wrote in her complaint.
She alleged that on March 17, during exam duties, she had requested some information from the TIC but he ridiculed her, mocking her position as a para-teacher.
Cops have started a case. No arrest has yet been made in this regard.
