  • 123 Burdwan: Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) has set a national record by manufacturing 700 locomotives in the 2024-25 financial year, marking a significant increase from its previous year's production of 580 units.

The milestone was commemorated on Sunday with the official unveiling of five new electric locomotives. These included a pair of WAP-5 aerodynamic push-pull locomotives designed for Amrit Bharat train, along with one pair of WAG-9 TWIN locomotives and a WAG-9 locomotive. General manager Vijay Kumar flagged off the units in a ceremony attended by senior officials.

"What makes this achievement particularly remarkable is that it was accomplished with a reduced workforce of 7,967 employees, compared to the previous year's 8,469 staff members. Of the total production, 544 locomotives were manufactured at the main Chittaranjan facility, while 156 units were produced at the Electric Loco Assembly and Ancillary Unit in Dankuni," an official said.
