2 teens held for sex assault and murder of 14-year-old in Siliguri

12 Siliguri: An 18-year-old was arrested and a 15-year-old detained on Tuesday in connection with the alleged sexual assault and murder of a 14-year-old girl. The arrested teenager was produced in court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody for 7 days. The minor was sent to a juvenile home.
Sources said she had left her home earlier in the day, telling her family she was going to Tinbatti More with friends to have biryani. Later, the family got a call from the 18-year-old, who claimed to be in a relationship with the deceased. He said he had found her lying in a forest near Uttarkanya, with injury marks on her neck. The two teenagers brought the girl back to her house and the family rushed her to Siliguri District Hospital, where she was declared dead.
Locals, however, said they saw the girl coming over to the boy's house fully conscious. A local said: "I saw two boys struggling to get a girl in a car. I asked them what happened, and they claimed she had come to the house drunk and that her parents were calling non-stop. I asked how alcohol could leave her in that state. Her leg was still outside the vehicle, I helped them put it in. They quickly shut the door and left."
DCP (East) Rakesh Singh said the girl's family filed a police complaint on Tuesday night, alleging murder and sexual assault. "The boy's version of finding the girl in the forest seems baseless," Singh added.
