• Partha files fresh bail plea
    Times of India | 4 April 2025
  • 1234 Kolkata: Former education minister Partha Chatterjee has filed a fresh bail application in a special CBI court on Thursday. His lawyer argued that Chatterjee is innocent and should be granted bail under any conditions. Previously, the CBI labelled him as the "mastermind of corruption".

In court, Chatterjee's lawyer, Biplab Goswami, stated that his client did not destroy the OMR sheets and had no role in their destruction. The CBI's initial charge sheet mentioned a company involved in the destruction of the OMR sheets but did not implicate my client, he argued.

Goswami also argued that his client was in jail for over two and a half years, while others arrested later in the case were granted bail. He also said that CBI did not interrogate his client in jail for a long time.

Judge Suvendu Saha asked the CBI lawyer if they had anything new to add, to which the CBI lawyer responded that they did not. tnn
