Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed state leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari to file a supplementary affidavit on Friday, indicating which parts of the troubled Mothabari in Malda he wanted to visit.
The direction came in response to the petitioner's submission that the DGP was not responding to his application to visit Hindu families in Mothabari. Counsel for the petitioner, Mayukh Mukherjee, submitted that Adhikari had given an elaborate representation to the state govt on the Mothabari incident. Adhikari had also written to the Malda SP and DGP, asking for a date and time to visit the troubled area.
The state counsel submitted that the police had registered 20 FIRs in this connection, and 67 people had been arrested. "The situation is now under control. But let the visit be after Ram Navami on April 6 or after Hanuman Jayanti on April 12," the state counsel said. The counsel for the petitioner insisted that the visit be allowed on April 10.
