  • 12 Kolkata: BJP neta Arjun Singh has been served a fresh notice by Jagaddal police station, directing him to appear with his licensed firearm by 2pm on Saturday. However, the former Barrackpore MP refused to comply. Instead, he alleged: "Trinamool is trying to get me killed through the police. I will surrender the revolver only if the court orders me to." This is the sixth notice sent to Singh since March 27. Jagaddal cops have also interrogated him at his residence in connection with the shooting of Mohammad Saddam on March 26 during a clash of workers near Meghna Jute Mill.

Reacting to the fresh summons, Singh said: "In the lower court, police stated that two Trinamool members had fired the shots. CCTV footage supports this claim. Yet, an arrest warrant was issued against me, and police are summoning despite the Calcutta High Court order. I trust the judiciary. I will not surrender my licensed firearm without a court order and not until it is checked by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL)."

Former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh supported Singh, and said: "There is an attempt to kill Arjun. If anything happens to him, we will not spare state govt. Arjun is very active in the area, and TMC is targeting him by using their police." Meanwhile, a senior police officer said legal action would be taken against Singh for skipping the summonses.
