Kolkata: The Met office expects rain in the city, with the possibility window beginning Sunday night. While the showers are likely to bring the mercury down gradually from Tuesday onwards, high humidity will continue to make the weather uncomfortable in Kolkata until the city receives a significant amount of rain.
The maximum temperature at 36.3°Celsius on Sunday was a notch higher than normal, while the minimum temperature of 27.2°Celsius was two notches above the normal mark. While both parameters will remain around the same mark, the mercury will start dipping by Tuesday. "The mercury might dip by two to three degrees by Tuesday due to scattered rain. But at the same time, the moisture incursion will also start rising, pushing up the discomfort level," said Sourish Bandyopadhyay, weather scientist at Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata.
On Sunday, many parts of southern districts like Birbhum, Burdwan, Bankura, and Midnapore witnessed thundershower activities with hailstorms in pockets. While city starts getting Nor'westers and squalls in April that bring temporary relief from the heat, the Met office sees no system that would bring these weather activities at present. "The expected rain in Kolkata for now is scattered and isolated, which will not be enough to make a difference in the weather condition," added Bandyopadhyay.
