SSC starts prep for fresh tests but unsure of process, candidature

Kolkata: The West Bengal School Service Commission has initiated preparations to start a fresh recruitment drive following an order from the state govt, based on the recent Supreme Court ruling.
The commission held a meeting, where the officials discussed infrastructure upgrades. An official said they were planning to buy devices, such as computers and scanner machines, ahead of the fresh round of exams.
The last written test that the SSC took was held in 2017. The exam was conducted on Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets, but the exam regulations changed in 2020. The commission (WBSSC) introduced a written test, comprising both compulsory and optional papers, each carrying 100 marks. The recruitment process involves a preliminary examination and a main examination, which is followed by a personality test.
Commission officials said they were in a dilemma about the procedure to be followed for the fresh tests. SSC chairperson Siddhartha Majumder said, "We are seeking legal opinion to clear all doubts."
But the commission officials are unsure about whom to include in the exam procedure. An official said, "There are several queries that need to be cleared first because these candidates (who have lost their jobs) cannot appear for the written exam that they took earlier. In that case, a new rule could be framed to accommodate these candidates. Moreover, new criteria should be fixed to conduct fresh recruitment because they had already undergone the recruitment procedure earlier." Officials hope to get a direction following the CM's meeting with the affected teachers on Monday.
