12 Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Tuesday allowed state leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari and BJP Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh to visit four places under the Mothabari Police Station in Malda on April 11.
The court, however, barred processions or public speeches in the area on the day of their visit. The petitioners moved the court after the Malda SP did not respond to their applications to visit Mothabari, where the houses of BJP supporters were damaged earlier.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh permitted the visit between 10am and 3pm. During the last hearing of the case, the state's counsel submitted that the govt had no issues with Adhikari and Ghosh visiting some designated places in Mothabari after Ram Navami.
The court, while noting that Adhikari has Z-category security, directed the petitioners to inform the officer-in-charge of Mothabari PS in advance about the number of cars in his convoy and the number of people accompanying him during the proposed visit. The court directed Mothabari Police to arrange for adequate policemen during the visit. The court also directed Malda SP to monitor the police movement and allowed him to deploy additional forces in case of an emergency.
