Teacher gets 40 years for sex assault of girl with disabilities

12 Siliguri: The Darjeeling district court convicted a 24-year-old teacher for the sexual assault of a minor with disabilities and sentenced him to 40 years of rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday.
Public prosecutor Pranay Rai said Mohammad Hasim, a special educator and a resident of Tungsung Jawahar Basti in Darjeeling, had been sexually assaulting the class II student for a long time.
"The victim's family filed a complaint with the Sadar Women Police in Darjeeling on June 7, 2024. On this basis, police arrested Hasim and started an investigation. Hasim was proven guilty based on the statements and evidence of various witnesses. The court sentenced him to 40 years under Section 6 of POCSO Act, 2012, and Section 85 of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015," said Rai.
