123 Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Thursday alleged that there was a "deliberate attempt" to instigate trouble at the Kasba DI office, questioning whether these attempts were being stoked by the opposition to stop the state from finding a legal solution to the problem. The party also said that while the "kick-gate" incident was "undesirable", it found such outrage amiss when senior academic Om Prakash Mishra was kicked on the Jadavpur University campus on March 1.
Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh told reporters, "The judgment has been delivered by the Supreme Court. The case is being probed by the CBI. How does the Kasba DI office come into the scheme of things? It was deliberately done with an attempt to derail the legal and administrative efforts being taken to resolve the issue. It serves the opposition to derail these efforts and keep the issue lingering." Ghosh added, "Such acts are undesirable. CM Mamata Banerjee is herself against such acts. The reason and circumstances are being looked into by the administration, but how can there be two different reactions to such incidents. When professor Om Prakash Mishra was kicked in JU there was absolute silence, now there is outrage. Why?"
Ghosh also asked what stoked such violent protests. "The visuals also showed how cops were being targeted. They had planned to damage and destroy (govt property). Had the police not chased away the violent protesters, they would have alleged why did police allow the protesters to damage the DI office where critical school-related documents are kept. But the moot point here is, why was the Kasba DI office chosen for such protests."
