• Katju sparks TMC ire with post, deletes it

  • 12 Kolkata: Facing backlash on social media, former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju on Thursday deleted a social media post asking "Bengalis to find a good husband for Mamata Banerjee". The ex-judge's post had drawn Trinamool's ire, with party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh saying, "he deserves a slap". Katju later posted again saying "it is dangerous to joke in India".

Katju, known for his out-of-turn comments, did not cite any specific reason for his barb at Banerjee. He had in the past changed his stance on the CM, switching from praise to criticism.

His "joke" did not go down well with Congress supporters. Ghosh wrote on X: "If this is really what this person said and if he doesn't apologise and delete it, then no matter what position he holds, if I get news that he has set foot in Bengal, I will go ahead and slap him."
