Kolkata: The city's first private radio frequency (RF) laboratory, being set up by Chicago-based semiconductor company TagoreTech, will be operational in Salt Lake's Sector V in the next two-three months. The company is considering shifting some of its product development work to Kolkata once the new facility starts functioning. TagoreTech's initial investment plan for expansion in the state is around Rs 10 crore.
Paul Hart, president and CEO of the company, told TOI: "The radio frequency lab is coming up on nearly 1,000 square feet of space on the seventh floor of a rented accommodation in Sector V. We are investing over half a million dollars to set up the laboratory in our existing facility, and we hope it will start functioning from June or July this year."
"We are focusing on the radio frequency market, 5G cellular infrastructure, radar applications and aerospace. We are eyeing Kolkata to be the growth turf for our global business. About Rs 10 crore investment is in the pipeline to expand our business here," said Hart.
Along with the RF laboratory, the company is also planning to set up a centre to host customers and cater to the global market, especially Asia. Hart said, "Our major focus is on product innovation. At the new facility, we will develop new products like third-generation switch technology, low noise and power amplifiers. We are looking for collaboration with local educational institutes for research and development."
