  • Kolkata: A 52-year-old man was arrested within an hour of a rape complaint being filed against him for allegedly assaulting a 20-year-old woman with special needs in the Rabindrapally area of Kestopur. The accused, Kaushik Bhattacharya, is a private tutor. He was apprehended from his residence on Wednesday.

    According to cops, Bhattacharya, who lived in close proximity to the woman, lured her to his flat under pretence of giving her chocolates and raped her. He then allegedly abandoned her on the street.

    The woman, who has a rod implanted in her back to help her stand straight, confided in her sister about the incident. The sister, who works in IT, took her to Baguiati PS to file a formal complaint. A case was registered.

    On Thursday, Bhattacharya was produced in Barasat District Court, where cops were granted three days' custody.
