Kolkata: Two bikers reportedly stopped a cab owner close to Acropolis Mall in Kasba, pelted the vehicle with stones and made away with his cash.
Police said the suspected road rage took place last week. An FIR has been drawn up and notices have been served on the accused, booked under BNS Act sections.
Safikul Mir, a resident of Harinavi near Sonarpur, said he had dropped off a passenger at Rajdanga around 3 am and was headed towards EM Bypass when a bike overtook him and forced him to stop. "Two men on the bike abused me, accusing me of not letting them overtake. When I protested, they kicked and punched me and threw stones at my car. My front view mirror was shattered. They snatched away Rs 1,500 from my pocket," stated Mir in his police complaint.
Police said they collected CCTV footage. "All angles, including personal enmity and road rage, are being checked," said a Kasba PS officer.
Police have formed a special team for the cab. Cab drivers' associations demanded strong action against such incidents, highlighting the vulnerability of drivers working at night.
