  • Kolkata: A male passenger was accused of touching women inappropriately on the metro travelling from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash on Monday night.

Several passengers caught him in the act. Tensions sparked after the train left Rabindra Sarobar station and the situation worsened after it departed from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) station. As the metro stopped at Kudghat station, the accused got off, only to be caught by fellow passengers. Woman passengers began to beat him with one claiming that the accused misbehaved with her even on the day of Saraswati Puja.

RPF personnel arrived at the scene to manage the situation, and the agitated passengers handed the accused over to them. He was taken to the Regent Park police station. However, no one was ready to lodge a FIR. "We lodged a GD and released the man as we had no evidence against him. However, we have noted down his particulars," said an officer from the south suburban division.
