  • 12 Kolkata: While Wednesday remained mostly dry with only isolated spells of light drizzle, the Met office has not ruled out the possibility of rain in Kolkata between Thursday and Friday. The rain might not be intense but it would prevent the mercury from shooting up sharply, said a weather official.

An IMD bulletin mentions a trough running from Sikkim to North Odisha across Bengal and Jharkhand, and another trough from Madhya Pradesh to the Gangetic Bengal across Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Met officials said there was also a favourable wind pattern and strong moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, which might bring thunderstorms in parts of the state between Friday and Saturday. "We are expecting thundershowers in Kolkata, too, in this period," said a Met official.

The Met office has issued a yellow warning for South 24 Parganas, West and East Midnapore and Jhargram on Friday, with the prediction of thundershowers, with gusty winds and lightning. The chance of rain in Kolkata is higher on Friday.

The city's maximum temperature on Wednesday was 34.2 °C, 1.4 notches below normal and the minimum temperature was 27.2 °C, 1.1 notches above the normal mark.
