12 Kolkata: Trinamool Congress began its voter verification exercise via the newly launched Didir Doot app on Thursday, with booth-level agents and representatives going for door-to-door visits. The app went live on Wednesday. The drive is set to cover more than 80,000 booths, across 26 organisational districts in the state.
The verification campaign aims to identify and remove "ghost voters" from electoral rolls, a concern first raised by CM Mamata Banerjee during her Feb 27 address at Netaji Indoor Stadium.
According to party seniors, booth-level workers have been equipped with smartphones and they are updating information collected from the field in real time.
The verification effort is expected to continue until next year's assembly elections, in line with Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee's directive that voter list revision should be a year-round exercise.
