Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Bengal Police arrested four persons and seized firearms and ammunition during a raid at Haroa, North 24 Parganas, on Thursday. The arrested persons — Amirul Mondal from Gopalpur, Habil Mollah, Abu Sahid Gazi, and Giyasuddin Gazi, all hailing from Haroa — were produced before the court on Friday.
Police sources said the group attempted to smuggle weapons from Bihar and Bangladesh to supply criminals in North 24 Parganas and areas along international borders. The STF registered a case at Haroa Police Station.
The STF officers intercepted a sedan during the operation based on intelligence about arms smuggling. The team recovered one single-barrel long firearm, one double-barrel breech-loading firearm, and one 7mm semi-automatic pistol with two magazines. The seizure included six rounds of 12 bore ammunition and eleven rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition. The STF confiscated the vehicle used for transportation.
