• ‘State’s lack of representation in SC on Grp C and D staff’

  • Kolkata: The West Bengal School and Madrasah Clerks' Association on Saturday sought justice for the eligible Group C and D staff from the 2016 panel of the School Service Commission. They felt that not allowing ‘untainted' non-teaching staff to continue is a violation of the rights to equality.

General secretary of the association, Biswajit Mitra, said, "The Supreme Court said that the appointees found tainted in this group are substantially high and did not allow non-teaching staff to continue. We are not opposing any verdict or statement of the Honourable Supreme Court, but we believe that due to a lack of representation by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and SSC, the untainted teachers got temporary relief and were asked to return to school for a specified period, while the untainted non-teaching staff were excluded during the hearing of miscellaneous application on April 17."

Mitra said "this was a violation of rights of equality" and "discrimination towards non-teaching staff" as they are part and parcel of a school. Tasks like student registration, enrolment, form filling, audits, PF, and various scholarships, including ‘Kanyashree', ‘Shikshashree' and ‘Sabuj Sathi', along with other administrative duties, cannot be completed without non-teaching staff. tnn
