• ‘Notorious Commission of Whitepapers’: TMC has a new name for NCW, claims ‘S’khali playbook’ followed in Murshidabad

  • Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Saturday called the National Commission for Women (NCW) the "Notorious Commission of Whitepapers", criticising the latter's recent visit to violence-affected areas in Murshidabad. The attack seemed to be a reference to last year's Sandeshkhali incident, during which alleged victims claimed NCW had made them sign blank papers that were turned into rape allegations.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose posted on X: "The @NCWIndia is not the National Commission for Women but the Notorious Commission for White Papers. In Sandeshkhali, @NCWIndia made women sign blank papers to cook up fictitious rape charges. Now, at @BJP4India's behest, NCW is in Malda & Murshidabad. The question must be asked: more white papers incoming?"

While claiming that NCW was following the "Sandeshkhali playbook" in Murshidabad and trying to defame Bengal, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh also criticised governor CV Ananda Bose's visit to the trouble-torn pockets, saying it was done on BJP's directions. "You must know that the visit by the governor is a political assignment under BJP's direction. But the larger conspiracy, where people crossed borders, instigated and created a fake narrative, is still not apparent to the sufferers. Those who they consider their saviours are the real demons. The tears of these women were orchestrated, the suffering of these people took place because the planners (BJP) wanted this drama to play out... we have seen how people from other states instigated the conflict. One such person was caught red-handed in Alipurduar," said Ghosh.

"One must accept the fact that these are innocent people... women... who have lost and suffered. They have been instigated. Just like in Sandeshkhali, the plot will be laid bare soon," he added.

Ghosh claimed LoP Suvendu Adhikari was changing his statements to save his political bosses and BSF. "It was he who said the plunder was Bangladeshi-style, orchestrated from Bangladesh. So why is he blaming the state now?" he asked.

Meanwhile, Trinamool MP Saket Gokhale claimed that NCW member Archana Majumdar, who had been prominently featured in media reports, was a "card-carrying BJP worker" who contested the 2021 Bengal elections on a BJP ticket. "What Modi's PR agency won't tell you: This ‘NCW member' Archana Majumdar contested the 2021 Bengal elections on a BJP ticket & lost. She's an active card-carrying BJP worker," Gokhale posted on X, adding, "NCW has long been a political wing of the BJP. And they aren't even good at hiding it."
