123 Kolkata: A Trinamool office in Chakmaricha village in Bhangar was reportedly vandalised and set on fire at night, leading to fresh rounds of tensions in the area.
The torching of the party office occurred a day before the "March to Shonpur", called by Trinamool, to protest against the attack on police by Waqf demonstrators last Monday.
"Police have cordoned off the area. They are questioning people," said an officer. Cops from North Kashipur PS have been deployed in the village to keep clashes in check.
Local Trinamool workers accused ISF of tearing down photos of party functionaries inside the party office before setting it on fire and also throwing away a carrom board into a canal. Trinamool's Canning East MLA Saokat Molla said, "ISF workers are repeatedly committing these acts. This party office was targeted even earlier. Last night, it was set on fire." ISF did not comment.
Also, Babulal Laskar, youth vice-president and Trinamool panchayat member of Narayanpur, and his aide, Azizul Laskar, were allegedly attacked in Ghutiyari Sharif when they were returning from a meeting ahead of the Shonpur march.
