Kolkata: Kolkata Police caught six people with 36 kg ganja in the city on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the narcotics cell of the Kolkata Police's detective department caught the accused on the southern pavement of KP Road at Kidderpore near Vidyasagar Setu under Hastings police station around 11 am. Cops frisked them and found the contraband. The accused, Dipankar Mondal, Pritam Adhikary, Mrityunjoy Mondal, Biswajit Bhandari alias Bhandul, Rupak Yadav and Samir Kayal, are residents of different villages under Falta and Bishnupur police stations in South 24 Parganas.
During questioning, police learned that the accused supplied the contraband, which was procured from Odisha. A police officer said, "On the basis of a complaint, lodged by SI Bivas Saha of the narcotics cell, a case will be registered against the accused at Hastings police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act."
