Digha: Local fishermen in Digha found a wooden idol of Lord Jagannath that had washed ashore on Sunday, prompting many, including Trinamool, to say this was an auspicious event.
CM Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to inaugurate the Jagannath Temple complex in Digha on April 30. A yajna will be held on April 29. The complex spanning over 22 acres has been modelled on Puri's Jaganath temple.
The white idol drew crowds of curious tourists. It was spotted by three fishermen after being carried in by the waves. The idol's origin remains unknown, but the timing of its appearance has sparked interest and speculation among locals and pilgrims.
"It is an auspicious sign for many, including locals," a local Trinamool Congress neta said.
