Kolkata: Police arrested four men on Sunday in connection to the robbery attempt at a Kolkata Municipal Garage in Dhapa. The accused were identified as Bishu Ghosh, Bikky Ishwar, Deva alias Ravi Rai, and Krishna Adhikari, all residents of Rajarhat. They were produced before a court and remanded in police custody.
Around 11.30 pm on Friday, a dozen men broke into the KMC garage and attempted to steal parts from old and impounded vehicles stored at the facility. When security guard, Anand Tripathi, attempted to stop them, they assaulted him and managed to flee. Tripathi sustained severe injuries and was hospitalised with multiple wounds.
The garage, a storage site for old vehicles, has long been a target for thieves, with locals citing frequent thefts, especially due to inadequate lighting at the facility's entrance. In response to the attack, KMC is also planning to file a formal complaint.
Cops arrested the accused, who are petty criminals and addicts, after reviewing the CCTV footage of the facility. Police are on the lookout for other members of the gang.
