Kolkata: A history-sheeter in Netaji Nagar and Tollygunge, Puchki, was on Sunday arrested after Mitali Bandyopadhyay, councillor of Ward 99, lodged a complaint against him and his aide, Jayanta, for creating trouble in the Baghajatin Hospital Road area on Saturday night. Jayanta is yet to be arrested.
The accusations against the two include extortion, assault, vandalism and issuing threats.
According to Bandyopadhyay, the duo's hideout was in the alley of 17B, Baghajatin Hospital Road. They assaulted locals, vandalised shops and threatened people, she said. "Residents, especially those living on Vidyasagar Road, are terrified of them. They set fire inside a food stall and vandalised it. They assaulted an auto driver. They walk around, brandishing weapons. Such complaints have been coming in for three months," she told reporters. Bandyopadhyay, along with residents of the area, staged a protest on Saturday, demanding the two's arrest. tnn
