JSW looks to bring Japanese, Korean companies to Salboni

123 Salboni: JSW Group will try to bring Japanese and Korean companies at its proposed Salboni industrial park, said company chairman Sajjan Jindal after laying of the park's foundation stone on Monday. JSW Energy is likely to set up another 1,600 MW ultra super-critical power project at the site, he said.
The group would also set up a skill development centre at Salboni, Jindal announced, following CM Mamata Banerjee's request.
Calling the Salboni cluster his dream project, Jindal said that amid the US-China tariff battle, a lot of Korean and Japanese companies — especially those with a substantial presence in the US market — were looking for a home. "We want to target them. There is a good chance that we can bring them here," he added. For many of these companies, going back to their home markets in Japan and Korea was not a viable option, Jindal said.
The JSW chairman said that the CM had urged him to set up another power plant and his team would soon meet the state power secretary to discuss this. "We have earmarked 1,000 acres in the park for power. There would be space for a second 1,600 MW power plant after completion of the first 1600 MW," Jindal said.
Companies operating in the electrical and electronics sectors could be the best bets for the industrial park, Jindal said, adding: "Products like washing machine, transformers, AC, refrigerators, micro motors, phone batteries, and compressors can be manufactured here." Companies dealing in chemicals could also come to the industrial park that would be set up over 2,000 acres, he said. The industrial park will work on a plug-and-play model, he added. The cement plant of the group is on 600 acres. Jindal indicated there would be both lease and sale options at the industrial park.
"Bengal is in the heart of eastern India and once Bengal develops, the entire region would be benefitted," he added.
