123 Kolkata: Trinamool is likely to file a separate writ petition against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 as a party. Earlier, party MP Mahua Moitra had filed a plea against it, which is among the 70-odd petitions which is being heard by the apex court.
A separate plea, the party functionaries argued, would be filed because Trinamool MPs — Kalyan Banerjee and Nadimul Haq — were part of the joint parliamentary committee who had dissented against the JPC's recommendations.
The step also comes in the backdrop of anti-waqf protests in Bengal which turned violent in Murshidabad and Bhangar.
