• Fire breaks out at Kolkata warehouse-cum-residential building, kills two

  • Two persons died in a fire that broke out at a garment warehouse in Kolkata on Sunday night.

    According to the Kolkata Police, the fire broke out on the fourth floor of the highrise godown which is also a residential building-cum-business centre, in the Pathuriaghata area.

    When smoke spread throughout the building, some residents had fled to the roof. Later, the fire brigade recovered two people who were shifted to hospital, but were declared dead on arrival. Doctors said they likely died because of suffocation.

    The fire brigade tried to stop the fire with ten engines, but could only bring it into control on Monday morning. During the fire, police and fire brigade rescued many residents, but could only find the two deceased after the fire was controlled.

    An investigation into the cause of the fire by the brigade and police is on.
