  • Kolkata: Bengal governor C V Ananda Bose was admitted to Command Hospital in Kolkata on Monday after he complained of chest pain. After undergoing a few tests, including angiography, doctors detected a significant blockage in the heart, which sources said would require a coronary artery bypass grafting.

CM Mamata Banerjee visited Bose in hospital and instructed Bengal principal health secretary Narayan Swarup Nigam to make all necessary arrangements for the treatment. Bose is likely to be shifted to Apollo Multispecialty for the procedure.

Sources said the governor complained of pain in the chest and the left arm, and his medical team enlisted cardiologist Saroj Mondal of SSKM to see him at Command Hospital. He suffered a myocardial infarction, a heart attack, and his blood pressure came down abysmally. After medications for temporary management, his condition improved.

"I went to see the governor as I heard he was admitted suddenly. I checked on him and his health is not good," the CM told media persons.

Sources said the CM interacted with doctors about their plan of treatment.

The Raj Bhawan, in a statement, said, "After his hectic field visits, HG (the governor) had a mild shoulder pain. He visited Command Hospital for a routine check-up. The pain has subsided but doctors advised him rest and wanted to keep him under routine observation for a day."
