  • West Bengal BJP chief and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar slammed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not visiting riot-affected areas of Murshidabad.

He made the statement after visiting the troubled areas including Dhulian, Jafrabad and Bedbona areas in Samserganj.

The BJP leader also met the family of the slain father-son duo Harogobindo Das and his son Chandan, who were killed in Jafrabad on April 11.

“She should have been here first and see the plight of Hindus. This would have given confidence to the people. Is she the only Chief Minister for Muslims in Murshidabad? She is the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Hindus lack the confidence to stay here. It was important for the Chief Minister to meet with the Hindus here. She should come and visit these places,” said Majumdar.

After his visit Majumdar said that people have been brought back from camps to their homes forcibly by the administration. People who took shelter in Parlalpur High School were brought back to Samsergunj on Sunday.

Governor CV Ananda Bose who had visited Samsergunj on Saturday had also met the relatives of the father-son duo in Jafrabad. “Situation is far from normal. After central forces deployment, the situation is under control,” the Governor told the mediapersons at Berhampore.

“After visiting violence-hit areas, now I can understand exactly what people are demanding,” he added.

“What happened is barbaric. This should never happen again. People are in panic. We should re-establish normalcy there and bring people to confidence that there is someone to protect them, and also take all steps to see that such things are warded off in future. Out of many demands, one prominent one was for a permanent BSF camp there,” Governor Bose said.
