  • Kolkata: Suraksha Diagnostics Ltd, an integrated diagnostics chain in eastern India, is planning to invest around Rs 70 crore to open 20 new centres in Bengal, Tripura, Shillong and Guwahati. Out of these, 10-12 centres would come up this year.

Ritu Mittal, joint managing director and CEO of Suraksha, said: "Of the 20 upcoming centres, 10 will be small, involving an investment of Rs 2 crore each. The remaining 10 centres will come up at a total investment of Rs 50 crore with more facilities and equipment."

Meanwhile, the diagnostic chain has acquired a majority 63% stake in Fetomat Wellness, a fetal and maternal medicine centre for pregnancy care, prenatal diagnosis and genetic counselling. With this, Suraksha will incorporate specialised maternal-fetal services of Fetomat into its network.

Somnath Chatterjee, chairman and MD of the diagnostics chain, said: "We are foraying into maternal-fetal services. We will expand this to rural parts of the state as well as outside Bengal. Following this partnership, the fetal medicine clinic will collect genetic samples that we will test at our Rajarhat facility."

Pradip Goswami, founder and director of Fetomat Wellness, said: "With the help of Suraksha, we want to amplify our reach and resources."
