123 Kolkata: Religious figures and people from diverse faiths came together at the Church of Christ the King to honour the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack during a memorial service held in memory of Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday.
Organised by the Archdiocese of Calcutta and the United Interfaith Foundation-India (UIFI), the evening was marked by prayers, hymns, and tributes that transcended religious boundaries. The service not only celebrated the life and message of Pope Francis but also became a platform to mourn the tragic loss of innocent lives in Pahalgam.
Archbishop Thomas D'Souza condemned the violence while addressing the congregation of people from various faiths. "The tragic killing of innocent people in Pahalgam was an act against human dignity. The senseless cruelty was an act of hatred and an attack on humanity. Our hearts go out to those innocent victims as we pray for peace in every place. May God grant eternal rest to the victims and console and comfort the affected families," said the archbishop.
Religious figures from various communities stood together in a show of interfaith harmony, offering collective prayers for peace and healing. Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, general secretary of UIFI, urged everybody present to join in prayer for the victims and their families.
"We can't even imagine the plight of the families who lost their loved ones. We condemn such acts of terror and hatred," said Ahluwalia.
