On Wednesday night, when the bodies of Bitan Adhikari and Sameer Guha who died in the Pahalgam attack arrived at the airport, state Minister Aroop Biswas, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay, MLA Agnimitra Paul and many others were present to stand beside the families of the deceased.
After the body of Bitan Adhikari reached the Kolkata International Airport, the wife of Bitan Adhikari, Sohini, said to Suvendu Adhikari: “I came here only to get courage from you. He (Bitan) always praised you. He always supported the BJP.”
Suvendu Adhikari then said, taking Bitan’s child on his lap: “Leave the politics matter. Israel ruined Gaza, India will also ruin Pakistan. They killed only Hindus. We will not spare them. We are children of (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi and disciples of Modi, we will stand beside you.”
When the bodies of Adhikari and Guha started to be moved towards their residences, BJP leaders started saying slogans of “Hindu martyrs” and “Bharat Mata ki jai”.
On Thursday morning, Adhikari met mediapersons in front of the main gate of the Assembly, where he burnt the Pakistan national flag.
“They killed 26 and we need 260 of their heads. Modi hai to mumkin hain. You wait and see, our army this time will also enter Pakistan and kill them.”
He then added, “You can observe her (Chief Minister’s) tweet. She never blamed Pakistan. She blamed the internal security of the country and the Central government. I would not say anything. The wives of the martyrs will answer.”
Meanwhile, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh posted on Facebook, “Adhikari’s wife first said terrorists did not kill only Hindus. Later, she said in front of BJP leaders that the terrorists killed only Hindus. The Chief Minister continuously called her and arranged everything for her return. Then, after her return, she said she came on the faith of BJP leaders. Bitan’s parents are helpless, their daughter-in-laws do not stay with them. Now in this ambience of grief I am not raising uneasy questions, but if I see someone trying to spread poison in the air, I must open my mouth.”
On Wednesday, Hakim went to meet the family of Sameer Guha at Behala. After meeting with the family, Hakim said, “When the Central government abolished Article 370 in Kashmir, we thought Kashmir became peaceful. People started going to Kashmir. But we are general people. We can’t fight with an AK-47. We thought the Central Government would give us security. If they can’t give us security, who will?”
