Man hacks wife to death in Kasba housing parking lot over ‘affair’

Kolkata: Residents of a housing complex in Kasba were left in shock on Thursday afternoon after a 33-year-old woman was attacked with a chopper and slashed repeatedly at the parking lot. The incident was reported from the Shivasa Apartment on RK Chatterjee Road in Kasba around 1.15 pm. The attacker, identified as the husband of the victim, has been arrested.
Cops claimed that the accused, identified as Janardhan Mondal (36), suspected that his wife, Rina, was involved in an illicit affair. That is why he decided to murder her, stated investigators.

"Janardhan, a resident of Jahurabazar in Kasba, came to the complex and began asking around for his wife Rina, who works as a domestic help in a top-floor flat of the four-storey building. The accused accosted his wife in the parking lot, and a quarrel ensued. Suddenly, Janardhan stabbed his wife with a sharp weapon. She was taken to Ruby General Hospital for treatment. However, she was declared dead by the doctors. The accused, her husband, was apprehended. The weapon was seized," said Joint CP (crime & traffic) Rupesh Kumar.
According to local sources, Janardan, a rickshaw puller by profession, often caused trouble while intoxicated and asked for money from Rina. Janardan, on the other hand, claimed that his wife was having an extramarital affair. Some locals stated that arguments between the two were too frequent.
Thursday's attack left the residents of the complex in shock. "I was having lunch. We heard cries and rushed out of the building. We found thewoman in a pool of blood in the parking lot," said a woman resident not wishing to be named.
"We never imagined our complex would witness such a gory scene.I have noticed the couple several times as Rina has been working here for several years," recalled Abhijit Sardar, who works as a caretaker-cum-driver in this apartment..
