CII Bengal council seeks new industrial policy for biz boost

Kolkata: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) West Bengal State Council, along with different chambers of commerce, is set to submit a proposal to the state govt on April 30 for the rollout of a new industrial policy that will focus on strengthening the MSME ecosystem, a district development plan for north Bengal and boosting industrial productivity and exports.
Council chairman Debashis Dutta, director of BGS group, said on Friday: "Last week, we had a meeting with Vandana Yadav, principal secretary in the department of industry, commerce and enterprises. We have submitted with the govt a comprehensive vision report highlighting the existing and potential business opportunities in the state. We expect the state to come out with the new industrial policy in the next six months."

The council's focus sectors in 2025-26 include agriculture and food processing, infrastructure, manufacturing, rolling stock, healthcare and logistics. "In the proposed policy, we are highlighting foundries, textiles, leather, gems and jewellery. We are also focusing on last mile connectivity needed for industrial growth," said Dutta.
Rupak Barua, vice chairman of the council, who is MD and CEO of Woodlands Hospital, said: "We are getting proposals from medical device manufacturing companies that are willing to set up facilities in Bengal. We are also promoting medical tourism in the state."
