  • 123 Kolkata: The Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) has planned to set up more toilet-cum-commercial blocks in Sector V amid demands from commuters and office goers. A new spot has been identified near the pedestrian plaza for the same.

Officials said presently there were five pay-and-use toilets along with shop spaces across Sector V. These are located near Benfish at the crossing of Street No. 27 and 2, near the SDF building at the crossing of Street No. 27 and 18, near Oxford University Press at the crossing of Street No. 25 and 18, near Techno India More at the crossing of Street No. 2 and 13, and near the 215A bus terminus on Street No. 28.

Officials stated that three such toilet-cum-commercial blocks were initially set up only as pay-and-use toilets and later developed into public amenity centres with a commercial shop on the ground floor.

NKDA has initiated the process to engage an architectural consultant for preparing a detailed project report (DPR) on the design of a new public toilet-cum-micro-retail block at the crossing of Street No. 25 and 30 near the pedestrian plaza. This includes a new railing design for the stretches adjacent to Street No. 25 and landscaping work at Block EP and GP, as planned.
