Kolkata: The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation on Saturday engaged a team of 33 women who would go from door to door across Salt Lake, hand over property tax bills and help residents pay the amounts online on the portal.
The civic authorities on Saturday held a meeting with the women, all members of a self-help group, and briefed them on the duty they would be assigned.

The women would not have the rights to force any resident to pay the tax on the spot but if anyone asked them, they would help them with the online payment, said an official. The team will work under two supervisors.
"There are several people in the township who are not familiar with the online tax payment system. A self-help group was deployed and they will make door-to-door visits with the tax bills to help residents pay their property tax on the online portals," said BMC MMiC Debraj Chakraborty.
BMC officials said the self-help group members would also be handed a list of people who have not cleared their taxes so that they could visit those houses and collect the dues from them or give them a reminder.
BMC has been working on the process to introduce a uniform tax structure for all its 41 wards. Currently, the tax structure of BMC wards 1 to 26 covering Rajarhat Gopalpur area is different from wards 29 to 41 in Salt Lake.
