Murshidabad: Leader of opposition in Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari visited Dhuliyan on Saturday morning. His first stop was at the house of Haragobindo and Chandan Das — the father-son duo murdered during this month's violence in the district — at Jafrabad. He handed over cheques of more than Rs 20 lakh to the family and promised he would take care of the education of Chandan's three children, reports Sukumar Mahato.
Earlier, TMC MPs Samirul Islam and Khalilur Rahaman had made similar assurances. Adhikari, however, claimed that the family had rejected the TMC offer. Adhikari said he would request the MHA to start an NIA investigation into the Murshidabad violence and put six months of central security forces' coverage in the area. Adhikari gave some financial help to traders for rebuilding their shops.
