The family of Haragobindo Das, 77, who was killed along with his 40-year-old son Chandan Das, during April 11 violence in the Samserganj area of Murshidabad district of West Bengal, on Saturday accepted Rs 20 lakh monetary help from BJP.
The Das family has, however, refused to accept Rs 10 lakh compensation announced by the TMC government in the state.
BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Saturday visited the violence-hit areas of Murshidabad district where protests against the Centre’s Waqf law turned violent on April 11, leading to the death of three persons, including the father-son duo of Haragobindo and Chandan Das.
Adhikari’s visit to the violence-hit areas comes after getting a nod from the Calcutta High Court. After handing over the cheque of Rs 20 lakh to the Das family, Adhikari told mediapersons: “It is a very scary situation. People are demanding BSF camps here and want NIA investigation into the violence.”
Adhikari, who visited the homes of several people hit by the communal violence, accused the TMC government in the state of being “anti-Hindu”. “In one of the homes I visited, the family had done shopping for an upcoming wedding. But everything got looted. The (protesters) did not even spare the speciallyabled. They are Hindus whose houses are affected, and this state government is against Hindus. We demand the state government to provide rehabilitation and compensation to these affected families,” Adhikari, who was accompanied by several BJP leaders, said.
