12 Suri: A 28-year-old stone trader, Sudip Baskey, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on motorcycles during an attempted robbery at Nirisha village, near the Jharkhand border, on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at a tea stall near a petrol station where stone dealers regularly gather for weekly payments.
According to witnesses, Baskey was shot while resisting the attackers' attempt to snatch his bag. "We are hopeful that surveillance footage from the petrol station will assist the investigation," said Seikh Siraj, president of Salbadra Stone Crusher Union.

Birbhum SP Amandeep confirmed an investigation was underway. The incident has raised concerns about security in the border area.
