12 Kolkata: A petition seeking Calcutta High Court's intervention into police denying permission for a ‘Sanatani Dharma Sammelan' at Contai on April 30, the day the CM is scheduled to inaugurate the Jagannath temple in Digha, attained a new dimension on Monday as the earlier was being touted as a programme of "real Hindus", as against the latter called a programme of "fake Hindus".
Senior counsel Kalyan Bandyopadhyay read out from the supplementary affidavit of the petitioner to argue that the ‘Sanatani Dharma Sammelan' was conceived as a programme of "real Hindus", to divide believers of the same religion.

Bandyopadhyay also seized the opportunity to point out to HC that South Eastern Railway had cancelled Digha-bound special DMU trains.
Advocate general Kishore Datta placed before the court of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh copies of posters pasted on the northwest gate of the Bengal assembly as well as other parts of Kolkata asking every Hindu to go to Contai on April 30.
"The posters carry no print line. They were pasted across the city when the court had not passed any order. I suspect that this is a smokescreen. Someone is behind the programme. Let the petitioner come clean on that," Datta said.
The advocate general submitted to HC that the petitioner didn't specify why he wanted to hold the sammelan on April 30. "Going by the petition, the petitioners want to perform yagnas, read Gita on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya. But then, one can read Gita every day, chant mantras even. Why did they plan to hold the programme on that day when the CM's programme was announced in Nov 2024?" Datta said.
The advocate general also cited Supreme Court judgments that no right was absolute, and there had to be balance between individual liberty and social control.
Justice Ghosh fixed the matter for orders on Tuesday.
