12 Kolkata: The city remained partially cloudy and the mercury dipped considerably on Sunday following Saturday night's nor'wester. While the maximum temperature was 34.2°C, the minimum — at 23.6°C — dropped six degrees from Saturday, two notches below normal. The Met office has predicted more thunderstorms until Wednesday, with the mercury expected to drop by three-five degrees across south Bengal. It may settle at 32°C-34°C in Kolkata for the next five days.
With moisture flowing in from the sea and the wind pattern turning favourable for nor'westers, the city is set to remain relatively cool until at least Thursday, said the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC). "Since upper and lower air circulations are favourable, we expect a nor'wester by Monday night. It should keep the mercury down," said RMC weather scientist H R Biswas.

The western districts of Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore, and West Burdwan, which reeled under heatwave conditions until Saturday afternoon, were lashed by rain on Saturday night and Sunday. "These districts, too, will get more nor'westers," Biswas said.
"In the city, it could take two-three days for the mercury to plunge by about four degrees. It could slide to 31°C by Tuesday. We expect a similar drop in the minimum temperature," said Biswas.
