Sources in the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) Saturday informed that they have intimated the School Education Department about anomalies detected in the recently released list of ‘untainted’ teachers.
The SSC had released a list of 15,403 candidates from the 2016 teachers’ recruitment panel who were found ‘untainted’.
On April 3, the Supreme Court cancelled the 2016 recruitment panel, leading to the loss of jobs of around 25,753 teaching and non-teaching staff in state-aided schools in West Bengal.
Later, the Supreme Court allowed untainted teachers to continue till December 31, but no such relief was extended to Group C and D non-teaching staff.
SSC officials informed that several issues have come to their notice since the list of untainted teachers was sent to the district inspectors of schools.
Many teachers alleged they are untainted, but their names are missing from the list. Again, in some cases, the database is showing that a teacher is in one school, while the teacher might have been teaching in another school after securing a transfer.
Schools have been instructed to stop the disbursement of salaries to teachers whose names do not appear on the untainted list. Salaries would only be disbursed after a thorough verification.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in an audio message, announced interim financial relief for Group C and D non-teaching staff.
“We have a number of social security schemes, and hence, considering the difficulties faced by the Group C and Group D employees, we can provide Rs 25,000 per month for Group C and Rs 20,000 for Group D until there is a decision on the review petition,” she said.
She also informed that the state government would file a review petition in the Supreme Court regarding the 2016 panel cancellation verdict.
Retrenched non-teaching staff have been on a protest outside Bikash Bhavan, the headquarters of the state education department, for several days now.
